Dark Purple for the Dog Days

Recently I have been obsessing over jewel-toned nails.  Now I know fall isn't happening for another month or so, but I just cannot stay away from the fabulous, deeper fall nail colors that are so amazing.  I haven't been able to spend as much time outside this year over the summer as I normally do, so the darker colors are still looking fabulous and I am not mad at it!  What I do have to say about this color that I chose for today's manicure is that it takes really long to dry.  I know that sometimes China Glaze polishes take a little longer to dry generally, so this is following that stereotype for the CG formula as it should.  Being that it's the only complaint that I have, I would say that I am happy with the color pay off and shade.  I mean, after all, whats wrong with a dark eggplant purple during the dog days of summer?  Absolutely nothing.

Haute Hair: What does it take?

I always heard people talking about heat protectant spray and I used to think about how much of a waste of time I thought it was.  While I sat there thinking about why I should justify purchasing one, I ran the idea through my head a million more times.  It makes sense.  I don't know, I've talked about this on the blog in the past, but I have extremely damaged hair.  I never really took care of it after swimming in the ocean and now I am paying the price.  Although I don't want to sacrifice heat styling my hair for the rest of my life, I don't want to make the state of my hair worse. 

                  

I decided to invest in the Treseme Thermal Creations Heat Protectant Spray, which honestly isn't that much of an "investment" at about $3-$4 at the drugstore.  I find that it is pretty good at making sure your hair doesn't have terrible breakage when you're done styling.  I must also be honest and say that while it protects your hair, it doesn't really improve it (the product contains vitamins).

                  

I got this Aveda brilliant Emollient Finishing Spray at my internship.  I have used it only twice but I must admit, it really makes your hair glossy and shiny (in a good way).  I think it's a great finishing gloss and does exactly what it says that it will do, nothing extra.  I also would not use this to improve your hairs health as it doesn't do that (it doesn't claim to).

Blood Orange Nails!

As you can see, my cuticles are really not in the best shape right now, I should probably get some oil going on to improve their health.  I don't know why but I was looking at my nail polish to decide what I wanted to use today, I looked at Berry and said "that one!"  I was so excited for some reason to use this gorgeous dark berry color.  To contrast, I said why not use this orange for a pop.  

I must say, I don't really love the application of the Zoya polish.  Maybe because of the color it is really sheer, but I don't really like the fact that I have to apply a million coats (four) just to have it look normal.  The American Apparel polish though, amazing.  I love the formula of these polishes and I think I have talked about them before.  This particular color took me about two coats to be opaque and some of the other colors are only one coat, I love it.

OOTD: 7/17, Black & White Tropics! (Video)

Here's a screen grab (as you can see the little play bar at the bottom) from my newest outfit of the day video!  I love posting these and getting creative with how I film them.  I am extremely inspired by traveling by train and the views that I see while I'm in motion, I just absolutely love it.  What I guess I am trying to say is be expecting lots of "train-ish" filmed ootds!  :)

Today I am wearing black and white tropical high waisted shorts.  I know you can't really see how they fit me in this video but they are adorable and very comfortable.  I went with these for today because it was going to be so hot and almost 100 degrees.  I didn't want to worry about how anything else would be clinging to me or anything, #notcute.  The shorts are from h&m.  The sheer, three-quarter sleeved shirt that I am wearing I tucked into the shorts, it's from Forever21.  The shirt has adorable sleeves as you saw in the video that have elastics and rouching on the arm, it also has strings that you can tie a bow with, I chose not to.  Underneath I just have a black tank because I really don't have the body for a bandeau (yet ;)), haha #notaboutthebandeaulife.  For shoes I just wore my h&m flats with the geometric-patterned cutouts that are MORE than loved as you can see.  I need to get myself new black basic flats.

I am of course wearing one of my Michael Kors watches in rose gold (MK 5128).  My sunglasses are Rayban (I got them on Sunglass Hut's website).  My bag is the largest Longchamp Le Pliage tote, I use it for work and it's perfection.

I had all intentions of getting this video up much earlier than I have, but here it is nonetheless.  I am so excited to post it because I LOVE July 4th.  I think the reason why it is my favorite holiday is because it's the dead of summer and it's hot and so much fun!  I love spending time with the family, watching fireworks and relaxing.  Do you guys enjoy the holiday?
