The Manicures of May: Apricot Nectar Perfecter!

I know the lighting here is not the best, but I had to shoot this color before 'The Manicures of May' is over!  This is called Apricot Nectar by Revlon and I am obsessed!  Not only for the color, but the scent is amazing.  This is one of the Revlon Parfumerie polishes and it smells absolutely amazing.  Not once while I was applying the polish did I get a hint of 'regular polish smell,' it was a delight to smell and I was quite frankly shocked.  I have purchased these scented polishes before but I always end up feeling like they don't smell like what they say they should.

Not to mention, how adorable are these bottles?!  They remind me of Deborah Lippmann polish bottles, yet they are nothing like them!  When these first came out, I was so in love with all of the colors so there were a couple that I ended up picking up.  This is the one that smells the most like it says it will out of the colors that I got.  I got a beachy scented one which ironically smells horrible but the color is gorgeous.  I am gutted because I love the beach, I love the color, but I hate the scent.

What have you been rocking for manicures this May?  I'm sad to see it go, but more content coming your way for June!  Send me a tweet and I will talk to you soon!  -Brit.

The Manicures of May: Triangular Pop of Purple

This is probably the easiest thing in the entire world but it makes it look like you maybe spent more time slaving away than other people think.  This is a bright pop of purple which is different for me, but I actually don't hate it.

I never really was diligent in putting on a base coat, I can't lie.  Being that my nails have been incredibly healthy and strong lately, I took an interest in trying it just to fix up the visible cracks.

After the base coat, I opted for a rose gold color for the second layer of polish and for the color that will be visible as the triangle and other nails.

Next, use a striping pen, nail art brush, a business card or anything else with a rigid edge/control to make a triangle shape.  You are going to want to make sure these lines are defined.

Next, fill everything in!  This is what your final product is going to look like.  If you want to, go ahead and add a couple more stripes or even a rhinestone at the point of the triangle.  You can get creative.

Base Coat: Deborah Lippmann, Ridge Filler
Color #1: China Glaze, Get Poetic
Color #2: Sinful Colors, Fun Times

If you recreate this nail look, tweet me a photo!  I would love to see it.  As 'The Manicures of May' come to a close, it doesn't mean I wont be posting more!  -Brit.

Makeup Storage For The VIBs at Sephora! ;)

Let's face it: You're VIB Status at Sephora, you're CVS membership card gets you more Extra Care Bucks than you even know what to do with and you're the first person to order when MAC has free two day shipping.  It's okay, no need to explain yourself because we find ourselves in this position too. We're all a little bit addicted to makeup.
With that comes organization and storage, which can be the least favorite part about loving makeup so much.  I'm no stranger to having blush compacts all over my dresser; I'll be the first to admit it.  To try and cap the mess a little bit though, I took to DIY-ing my own organization and storage, which has been probably the best decision I have made.  As far as top beauty tips go, we don't blame you if you share this one with every single person you know!
Tip 1:
  • Don't be afraid to use anything that you have on hand to store some of your makeup products, including candle jars from that 2/$22 Bath and Body Works sale that we know you purchased some candles at!

Tip 2:
  • All you need to do is rinse the candle jar.  To get the wicks out of the bottom, use a scissor to carefully loosen them from the glass.  After you have removed the wicks, remove the rest of the wax from the entire candle jar.  If you need more help with this and the wax is being stubborn, use nail polish remover (the acetone will lift the wax).  Be sure to rinse the entire candle jar so it is completely clean and voila!  You have yourself a new makeup storage container.

Tip 3:
  • If you need more than just a few candle jars to store makeup, first of all: we don't blame you, then simply look around the house!  For instance, I found this fish bowl.  Now trust me, I know for a FACT it wasn't used.  With all of these glass jars on my dresser it looks like I have my very own makeup candy store.  It's adorable and makes for such a cute display.

Tip 4:
  • Now this one is interesting.  How many palettes do you have?  I know that I have definitely purchased my fair share but these are the ones that I find myself dabbling into the most.  For that reason, I wanted to have them on display.  This is probably the easiest thing and you most likely have this hanging around the house: a mail/file organizer!  Use the mail/file organizer to display either all of your palettes or the ones you use the most so that they are easily accessible and out of the way!
All in all I would recommend doing what's right for your situation and your space at your own home.  I love this type of organization because it not only is practical, easy and inexpensive, but its adorable!  I know I have written/done a video on something like this before but I just HAD to share some photos and more in-depth explanations on how I do things here!  Send me a tweet and let me know what you do to store your makeup at your house!  Do you have any tricks for me?  I would love to see!  -Brit.

The Manicures of May: Steady As She Rose

Although I could imagine some calling this color quite mundane and inappropriately seasoned, I still cannot contain my love for it.  'Steady As She Rose' by OPI is a great color and personally I think it's great for this time of the year.  Not necessarily is it a pastel, I think it's a great purple/gray hue that just makes Spring (which already feels like summer) just that much better.  I also feel like I could see myself wearing this color in the fall as well, just when we are thinking about holding on to that little bit of warmer weather that we have left.

Ugh, I don't want to think about that time of year yet.

I decided to make a glitter wave on the accent nail with Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday.

Which manicures have you been loving for the month of May?  This is my first one after my all-red choice for Memorial Day weekend.  Thanks for reading, send me a tweet!  -Brit.

Memorial Day Weekend 2014!

I had a great weekend!

I'm With The Brand: Clean and Clear

There are a couple of things that I have been absolutely loving lately that I had hardly expected to like AT ALL and for that I most definitely think they deserve the spotlight.  Knock on wood, my skin is normally not acne prone and I am lucky to not be one that obtains those massive pimples and breakouts.  Rather than them being so abundant, they are quite the rarity and nothing makes me happier.  Recently though, I don't know where it came from but I had about five RANDOM spots pop up around my face.
I had been thinking for a long time about trying some sort of toner for my face because I had only tried a random formula once before and to be honest, I don't think I was using it properly.  Destined to figure out a great one for very sensitive skin and to find one that allowed me to assist in healing my skin, evening it out and cleansing it at the same time, I headed over to Target.  I had one in mind.

These two scenarios brought me to the Clean and Clear section of the store.  I had heard about a toner from Clean and Clear years ago that a couple of people were talking about but I never actually believed that it would work for me.  What got me to change my mind?  It was $4 and for sensitive skin.  You know I am always on the look out for something that will work the best it possibly can for me and when it's that inexpensive, it just makes it all worth the while.

I had also been hearing people talk about the Clean and Clear Spot Treatment for a while.  Like I previously mentioned, I don't normally tend to have huge breakouts or anything so I didn't want to go insane buying something so expensive when I knew I wouldn't really use it that often.  Right next to the toner in the same area, I saw the Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment.  With a price point of $9 and a promise not to overdry the skin, it was in my basket in less than two seconds!

It's been a little over a week and I feel like I am definitely ready to talk about how much I love these two products.  Using them together has been absolutely amazing and like the packaging says, I have seen results in about one day.  I couldn't believe the healing power of the Acne Spot Treatment.  I was so happy to be able to use the product thinking that it would just assist my spots and have them disappear gradually but when they were gone in the next day, I was completely shocked.  Of course there was that same worry that it was going to effect my skins sensitivity, but it didn't at all and I was so thankful for that.  I applied the solution three times daily and I will continue to repurchase this when it runs out.  For about $9 and instant improvements in my skin, I could not be happier!

As far as the toner goes, I could not be more impressed.  It was a cleansing solution, so I was happy with the fact that I was able to treat my skin, but also be continuously cleansing it when reapplying the toner.  This toner reminds me of a slightly less aggressive astringent.  When I was younger, I used to use the Sea Breeze astringent/witch hazel to clear my skin completely.  Apparently, astringent is more of a bacterial cleaning agent and toner 'pacifies the acid mantel' that we have on our skin.  Sometimes when you wash your skin, that can come off and leave you with irritated-feeling skin.   The formula of this toner was pleasant, assisted the Acne Spot Treatment and just generally worked really well for me.

I couldn't be more excited about this power duo that helped get rid of my weird, random, popped up out of nowhere spots.  I am thankful that I was able to find reasonably priced products that are so readily available.  If you guys are using anything great for these ailments, let me know in the comments or send me a tweet!  Let me know if you've been using Clean and Clear products and if so which products are your favorite ones?  I want to check out their make-up wipes next.  Also, I hope you liked my first installment of a new series of something I'll be doing on the blog 'I'm With The Brand,' where I will celebrate a brand that I have been loving every once in a while!  Talk to you soon.  -Brit.

No Kabosh On These Kabobs!

So I can't lie, I was inspired by the bamboo skewers that I found in my drawer when I went into it to get a straw to drink my green juice.  This cooking thing is starting to really get me going.  Honestly, I can't really believe it but it makes me so happy.  I don't remember whether I mentioned this on here or not, but pretty soon I am going to be writing a post on how I stay zen and I just might include cooking.

*GASP*

I know.  This is all very weird.  Basically, it's like a new relationship.  When you're in a new relationship, you take things slow right?  Or at least thats what you try to do.  That's exactly what I'm doing here.  I know that people normally say when you take it slow, sometimes it works better and from this newly formed relationship with food I can say that it's true.

Tonight for dinner I made a chicken kabob.  About 10 of them actually.  My brother ate about seven and I, three because there are none left.  While I am thrilled that they were loved, I am upset that there are no leftovers.  Such woes.

Being that my recent time has been spent scouring Pinterest and Honest Cooking for some interesting recipes to replicate and hope they turn out well, cheers to kabobs!

To try, you will need: Assorted peppers, onions, cilantro, lime, pepper, paprika, tomatoes, pineapple, chicken.

I first cut the chicken into cubes and started 'marinating it' in the cilantro, lime, pepper and paprika.  I say that loosely because it was only in the bowl 'marinating' for about 20 minutes.  Normally you should probably make sure that your skewers are soaking in water for a little bit before you assemble them, but I didn't have that time.  I rinsed them off and started assembling.

These were divine.  Give them a try and let me know what you think.  Are you at the beginning of a beautiful relationship with food?  I would like to hear about it.  Tweet me!  -Brit.

I'm Turning Into A Cook!?

So for some reason recently, I have been SO incredibly into cooking.  I don't necessarily keep it a secret on the blog that I DON'T like cooking at all, hahah.  It's not that I don't like it I guess, but it's just that I am in no way good at it.  There's really nothing more to say about that.  My father is a fantastic cook and my uncle is a professional chef but I guess the cooking just did NOT pass down to me.  My brother never cooks either but even when he does decide, on the off chance, to make something he does a fine job.  Like I said, it must have just skipped a generation or something, I don't really know.

I have discovered that recently I am getting way more into cooking.  You know what's funny about this?  I think the older I get, the more I think about how I cannot cook and how bad of a wife I feel like I would be (lololoolol).  Although that is one of my thoughts, it's not the main one.  For myself, I want to learn how to make more things so that when I'm hungry, I don't have to just order a salad or buy a sandwich.  To be honest, I don't just buy something to eat because I'm lazy, I do it because I have NO idea how to make anything.

Another thought about this is that I feel as though when I say 'I can't cook' I'm self-depricating and by doing that, it doesn't instill enough confidence in myself, in turn making me never want to cook anything.  I feel like I use it as an excuse sometimes because I am afraid to try something new.  For the past two weeks, I have been trying new things and not only me, but my brother and dad have also really enjoyed them.  This makes me so happy.  In telling my dad that I made them though, he knows that I can be spastic in the kitchen so he says, 'Oh boy, I'm scared.  Not because of how this is going to taste because I know you wouldn't make me taste it if it wasn't good, but because I'm worried about what it took for you to make this.  I could only imagine what was happening while I wasn't home.'

LOL.  Thanks dad.

So using the things that we had on hand in the kitchen, I got to work.  the best part about trying to create new things is trying to create new things YOUR WAY and with YOUR INGREDIENTS.  I mean, obviously don't wing it if you're trying to make something for a date or for a party, but if you're trying to start cooking more, I would suggest just grabbing a few things that you have at home and going at it yourself.  Wait, did that sound weird?  Well, what I mean is: Don't feel pressured to follow a recipe if you want to start cooking.  I am not saying that you SHOULDN'T follow a recipe, I'm just saying that there's a lot less stress if you go with the flow.  If following a recipe is more your gig, then you can go with that.

To Try You'll Need: Big/little shells (I used a mixture of both but you don't need to), red pepper, green pepper, onion, garlic, paprika, pepper, salt, olive oil.

This first dish (excuse the horrible picture, I wanted to eat it so bad), is really good!  Out of all three, this is the one that I had absolutely NO direction.  I was deciding how I was going to cook and what I was going to add in as I was going along.  I boiled the big and little shelled pasta first and in a different pan on the stove next to it, I put some fresh green and red peppers with onions and fresh garlic.  I used four cloves of garlic, half an onion and two peppers.  When the pasta was done, I drained it and added it to the pepper and onion mixture when the onions were translucent and the peppers were slightly charred.  I added some pepper, paprika and a small amount of salt.  This was SO delicious and incredibly easy.  I wasn't sure how it was going to taste because it was so 'on the whim' but I made it today and I can tell you right now, it's all gone.

To Try You'll Need: Orange pepper, yellow pepper, onion, garlic, steak, corn tortillas, ginger sauce, cilantro, olive oil.
So we're about to get real real on this one.  I have no idea what kind of steak I used for this.  I THINK it was a top round london broil, probably one that you aren't supposed to use for steak fajitas.  I saw that we had steak in the fridge and I wanted to make fajitas with it lolololololol.  I once again took to the stove and I cooked the peppers, onions and garlic the same as described above.  On another burner in the wok, I cooked the steak in which I cut into strips (fajita style).  I didn't marinate the steak so while it cooked I threw in some cilatntro.  I felt like a freakin' chef.  As things were almost done, I threw in two small corn tortillas to the toaster oven for about a minute.  When everything was done, I threw it together in the tortilla and 'BAM.'  Sorry Emeril, what can I say?  I was feeling inspired.

To Try You'll Need: Chicken, cilantro, lime, black beans, red onion, green pepper, pepper, rice, olive oil.

For this one, I just threw everything in the wok together, starting with the chicken.  I sliced the chicken fajita-style and used olive oil to cook it up a little bit.  While the chicken was cooking, I sliced the peppers, onions and cilantro.  Once the chicken was cooked (but not all the way), I threw the onions, cilantro, black beans, green pepper and pepper in.  I cooked it until the chicken was done and the flavors really came together.  I served over rice!

These are some awesome started meals and really, they are so delicious!  I don't think anyone would guess that you were a beginner if you served them these.  I didn't follow any recipes for these and that was the best part!  I just decided to go for it with everything and I got a great result.  If you think about it too, these really aren't that unhealthy, they are on the pretty good side when it comes to balanced.  You don't have to have the rice, or you could sub it with brown, and save the pasta for your cheat day!

Have you been cooking lately?  Leave some suggestions for things that I can try in the comments below.  I am so excited to be on this 'New Chef' journey, it really makes me happy knowing that I am learning more about what it takes to make a full meal.  Send me a tweet and thanks for reading!  -Brit.

Springtime Candle Haul!

As the season changes, so does my desire to make my room smell like the 'Autumn' scent from Bath and Body Works.  Although I do love that scent, I really do reserve for the end of August until November at which point in time I change over to Twister Peppermint and Balsam for the winter.  I must admit, I am quite the candle snob.  Although those are some of my brief favorites, there are many other candles that I favor in between but now that it's spring, I am showing you some of my favorites for this glorious season.

As you've I'm sure gathered from the above, the two places that I decided to indulge in candles in, are Wickit Good Candle Co. and Bath and Body Works.  As you also presume, Bath and Body Works is most definitely a place that I frequent.  First though, it this amazing local place called Wickit Good.  I love this shop!  I always see them at local festivals with their booth selling candles and then of course their location in Point Pleasant.  There's another location in Chester, NJ but I have never been.

What's so special about the shop is that their candles are unique.  Unlike most other places, these candles are named after locations in New Jersey, which just generally makes me happy.  I find that sometimes candle companies just have the same scents that you can find anywhere else if they name them something different and that's not what happens here.  With Wickit Good, the candles are different names AND different scents.  Yes, some of the scents are similar to ones that are widely known, but most are different and that's what sets them apart.  The candle jars are adorable and come in a couple of different sizes.  A couple of things they carry include: jar candles, pillar candles, votive candles, tea light candles, pods, tarts, melters and floater candles!  There are plenty of options.

As you can see I chose Namaste and Green Tea.  Both of these scents are so relaxing and they really make you feel zen (I actually plan to do a blog post on how to feel and stay zen soon).  I love burning these during the day or at night to kind of unwind from the day and make you feel calm.  The Green Tea candles smells EXACTLY like what it says, fresh Green Tea.  I love the scent, it's beautiful for spring.  Namaste is so different than anything I have ever smelled before.  Apparently Namaste, 'is made from the pure essence of Sandalwood; a warm, balsamic, woodsy and earthy fragrance that promotes a sense of well-being.'  The scent is really beautiful and I would most definitely recommend it because it too has a calming note and it's lovely to light when you're seeking calm relaxation.

As you can see from the above photo, I couldn't wait to start burning Green Tea.  You can also see that I have burned so much because I burn candles all the time.  Please check out Wickit Good Candles here.  What's not to love about an awesome company with a sick name, too!?  Order some!

Just popping in now with some beautiful color from Bath and Body Works, you know I can't stay away from their scents.  What I like most about Bath and Body Works right now is that they are doing something different with the design of their jars.  For a couple of years they were always the same thing but now they are changing the fonts consistently and most of all they are designing the caps different with each new line.  I like it!  I picked up Wild Poppies (new scent that I'm trying), Pineapple Mango (an old favorite), Honeysuckle (love this, ultimate for spring), Springtime in Provence (a new favorite this year) and London Calling (another great new one).

What have you been loving candle-wise?  Do you change with the seasons when it comes to scents?  I just cannot reckon the thought of burning a Balsam Fir candle in the heat of May!  Let me know what you think in the comments below and of course, send me a tweet.  Thanks for reading!  -Brit.

Revive Your Dead Winter Skin (Eczema Friendly)

Guys!  I am back with another YouTube video because I am just that passionate about skincare right now.  I don't know about you but FINALLY my skin is starting to completely revive itself and I owe it all to these couple of products.  I must be honest and admit that obviously the lip product is not for skin it's for lips and the Suave lotion I just got the other day but I have absolutely been loving both of them.  If you actually wanted to take it a step up, you could totally use the lip balm after taking a tooth brush to your lips to remove the dead skin.  Let me know if you give that a try and let me know what you think!

All in all, I have been loving this products and I wanted you guys to HEAR the emotion in my voice when I talk about them.  I know you feel it when you read, but I wanted you to hear it in video form.  If you are using anything to get your skin ready for spring and summer, please let me know in the comments below.  I have sensitive skin, as I have mentioned 51564554 times this year and that normally stops me from trying anything insane, but I don't care, I LOVE IT.

Send me a tweet and let me know what you're loving.  I hope you enjoy the video!

The Manicures of May: Fruity Friday!

So last year I tried doing a manicure a day in May or something like that and I would have tried to do it again this year but I completely forgot!  As much as I wanted it, May kind of still creeped up on us.  Don't you agree?  I felt inspired for some reason today to do a 'fruit-themed' manicure and this is the result.  There were a couple of ideas I had when I was planning and the design so check it out!

Have you guys been getting creative with your nail art at home lately?  I absolutely love doing this and I haven't in a while, so it felt good.  I always get creative with thinking about new things to include in the design, but occasionally you will see a common theme that makes it into all of them.  Apparently in this fruit-themed manicure I thought that blueberries needed to have a stem?  I don't know, there's really no explanation for it haha.

I'm going to head out now and give my full attention to Benji from itsjudystime who is currently hosting a Google Hangout about Green Juice.  Yes, I am doing this on my Friday night.  I'm not even mad.  I hope you guys really enjoyed this fruit manicure.  It isn't as hard to recreate as it looks so take a look at what you see above and try it yourself!  If you do, tag me in it on Instagram or send me a tweet @brittanyirvine!  Thanks for reading and checking it out, talk to you all soon!  -Brit.
