Gracies Garden?

Quarantine has had me thinking about so many things - but to be honest, this is something that I have been thinking about even before I had my own balcony to do it on. Gardening that is - 😂.

For the longest time, I have wanted to grow all kinds of vegetables in my backyard/on my balcony and the dream is finally come true. Since I moved in June, I now finally have the balcony! I've been thinking about how I wanted this to come to life for the past couple of months and realized there were a few options:

I could grow everything in longer planters and hang them off the sides, I can grow individually in smaller planters and hang them off the sides, or I can grow in groups and smaller planters (terracotta) on the balcony without hanging off the sides. The last option is ultimately what I decided.

There's a really cute nursery in Nutley, NJ that my friend and I decided to stop off on on our way to Montclair to have a look at the dreamy homes on Upper Mountain Ave. Centre Ridge Garden Center has tons of options to choose from depending on the season. While I was there, I saw a ton of vegetables that were already growing, but also seeds to start from scratch. The range was wide and there were a ton of different lettuces specifically, for me to choose from.

Going in, I had it in my mind that I was going t simply buy one romaine plant, one tomato plant and then some herbs. Boy did that fly right out the window. I ended up with basil, parsley, sage, red leaf lettuce, romaine, cucumbers and radishes. Lmao, you cannot make this shit up. I was so beyond excited that I just started grabbing everything I saw.

*Left my toe with fuzzy slipper in for the humanization of it all. 😂

It was one of those moments in life where I found myself so happy in the moment and those are the moments I have cherish. I grabbed one of the caddy wagons to put all of my choices in and literally squealed with happiness. I was finally achieving yet another something that I wanted to for so long: starting the mini garden I have always wanted. It may not be the biggest deal to most, but for me it felt so good.

As soon as I got home, I went right out to the balcony with some tunes and sparkling water and started planting away. I planted everything except the cucumbers for right now because I felt like they just had to be on their own because they'll be huge. If you have any suggestions for pots - please let me know!

I hope to update you ASAP on the growth of these! Most of the growth periods seem to be soonest 10 days and at most - so we will see. I believe in myself.
